<div> </div><div>Sandstorm is a web app hosting platform which prioritizes security and ease of use. It is designed to bring the convenience of cloud-based web apps onto a self-hosted platform. Users can install applications as easily as they install apps on their smartphone, and share and collaborate with other users easily. Sandstorm is designed to be easy to stand up and administrate as well, including support for automatically configured free dynamic DNS addresses and Let’s Encrypt certificates. <div>The Ersilia Open Source Initiative is a UK-based charity whose mission is to strengthen research capacity against infectious and neglected diseases. We do so by providing state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) methods for drug discovery and global health.  <br /><br />AI/ML tools holds the power to revolutionize the drug discovery field, reducing the time and costs to new drug development, but they are not yet broadly implemented in day-to-day experimental research. At EOSI, we aim to popularize and democratize the access to AI/ML methods via the  Ersilia Model Hub, the first unified framework for the distribution of ready-to-use AI/ML models for biomedicine, prioritising infectious and neglected disease areas. <br /><br /></div><div>The Ersilia Model Hub is a free, online, open-source platform where scientists can browse through a catalogue of AI/ML models, select the ones that are relevant to their research and run online predictions without the need to write a single line of code. We are gathering, in a single resource, two classes of models. On the one hand, we collect models developed by third parties and available in scientific publications. On the other hand, we develop models in-house and/or in collaboration with research groups in LMICs. <p>The Tor Project, Inc, became a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2006, but the idea of "onion routing" began in the mid 1990s.</p>
<p>Just like Tor users, the developers, researchers, and founders who've made Tor possible are a diverse group of people. But all of the people who have been involved in Tor are united by a common belief: internet users should have private access to an uncensored web.</p>
<p>In the 1990s, the lack of security on the internet and its ability to be used for tracking and surveillance was becoming clear, and in 1995, David Goldschlag, Mike Reed, and Paul Syverson at the U.S. Naval Research Lab (NRL) asked themselves if there was a way to create internet connections that don't reveal who is talking to whom, even to someone monitoring the network. Their answer was to create and deploy the first research designs and prototypes of onion routing.</p>
<p>The goal of onion routing was to have a way to use the internet with as much privacy as possible, and the idea was to route traffic through multiple servers and encrypt it each step of the way. This is still a simple explanation for how Tor works today.</p>
<p>In the early 2000s, Roger Dingledine, a recent Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) graduate, began working on an NRL onion routing project with Paul Syverson. To distinguish this original work at NRL from other onion routing efforts that were starting to pop up elsewhere, Roger called the project Tor, which stood for The Onion Routing. Nick Mathewson, a classmate of Roger's at MIT, joined the project soon after.</p>
<p>From its inception in the 1990s, onion routing was conceived to rely on a decentralized network. The network needed to be operated by entities with diverse interests and trust assumptions, and the software needed to be free and open to maximize transparency and separation. That's why in October 2002 when the Tor network was initially deployed, its code was released under a free and open software license. By the end of 2003, the network had about a dozen volunteer nodes, mostly in the U.S., plus one in Germany.</p>
<p>Recognizing the benefit of Tor to digital rights, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) began funding Roger's and Nick's work on Tor in 2004. In 2006, the Tor Project, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was founded to maintain Tor's development.</p>
<p>In 2007, the organization began developing bridges to the Tor network to address censorship, such as the need to get around government firewalls, in order for its users to access the open web.</p>
<p>Tor began gaining popularity among activists and tech-savvy users interested in privacy, but it was still difficult for less-technically savvy people to use, so starting in 2005, development of tools beyond just the Tor proxy began. Development of Tor Browser began in 2008.</p>
<p>With Tor Browser having made Tor more accessible to everyday internet users and activists, Tor was an instrumental tool during the Arab Spring beginning in late 2010. It not only protected people's identity online but also allowed them to access critical resources, social media, and websites which were blocked.</p>
<p>The need for tools safeguarding against mass surveillance became a mainstream concern thanks to the Snowden revelations in 2013. Not only was Tor instrumental to Snowden's whistleblowing, but content of the documents also upheld assurances that, at that time, Tor could not be cracked.</p>
<p>People's awareness of tracking, surveillance, and censorship may have increased, but so has the prevalence of these hindrances to internet freedom. Today, the network has thousands of relays run by volunteers and millions of users worldwide. And it is this diversity that keeps Tor users safe.</p>
<p>We, at the Tor Project, fight every day for everyone to have private access to an uncensored internet, and Tor has become the world's strongest tool for privacy and freedom online.</p>
<p>But Tor is more than just software. It is a labor of love produced by an international community of people devoted to human rights. The Tor Project is deeply committed to transparency and the safety of its users.</p>

Open Anniversary aims to provide an innovative and inclusive platform for the community to remember, celebrate, and reimagine the open source movement.

<div>In 2021, the <strong>open source movement</strong> will be celebrating several important milestones, including the <strong>20th Anniversary of Wikipedia and Creative Commons</strong>, as well as the <strong>30th Anniversary of Linux and the World Wide Web</strong>.<br /><br /></div><div>Celebrating Anniversaries is much more than just throwing a party. It is also an opportunity to look back in <strong>history</strong>, to reevaluate the <strong>mission and values</strong>, and to build a <strong>new future</strong> for an organization or community.<br /><br /></div><div>With that in mind, <strong>Open Anniversary</strong> aims to provide an <strong>innovative and inclusive</strong> platform for the community to <strong>remember, celebrate, and reimagine</strong> the open source movement.<br /><br /></div>

AfricArXiv is a community-led digital archive for African research communication. We provide a non-profit platform to upload working papers, preprints, accepted manuscripts (post-prints), presentations, data sets to any of our partner services.

This is achieved by <a href="https://opencollective.com/redirect?url=https%3A%2F%2Finfo.africarxiv.org%2Fpartners%2F">partnering with established and renowned organisations</a> inside and outside Africa that specialize in science communication, capacity building, scholarly tech development and networking – all of which serve the discoverability of African research results and achievements as well as the reputation building of African researchers’ profiles. <br /><br /><br /></div><h3><strong>Roadmap 2021-2023</strong></h3><div>Through the building of an open, transparent, reliable, efficient and decentralized discoverability infrastructure, it is our aim to support the connectivity of African scholars – and African scholarship – to a wider audience.  As part of the near future plans, we intend to further diversify tools and applications to work along innovative, globally applicable standards and methodologies to accomplish our mission to ensure African ownership of African data. In the next three years, we want to further increase networking and partnership building in the growing African Open Science ecosystem and establish AfricArXiv as a self-hosted, cross-continental decentralised Open Access platform. We envision the various scholarly repositories that host African content to become interoperable and work with various stakeholders towards that goal. The full roadmap can be found on <a href="https://opencollective.com/redirect?url=https%3A%2F%2Finfo.africarxiv.org%2Froadmap%2F">africarxiv.org/roadmap</a>.<br /><br /></div><div><br /></div><h3><strong>Contribute, support and engage</strong></h3><div><br /></div><div>Building and managing AfricArXiv involves expenses for human resources, technology development, partner services, third-party services like web hosting, digital communication tool fees etc. From 2018 to 2020, these expenses were covered by direct financial contributions mostly by the core team members, conference participation and partner service fee waivers and a highly dedicated in-kind workforce by the wider AfricArxiv team and users. <br /><br /></div><div><br /></div><h3><strong>We are working towards keeping submissions affordable for individual researchers and this is why we need support.</strong></h3><div><br /></div><div>Our planned revenue streams include institutional partnerships, crowdfunding, training, consultancy services and capacity building<br />Financial contributions to AfricArXiv can be made via PayPal, mPesa, direct debit, and online transfer. <p>Tuist is a command line tool that makes generating and interacting with Xcode projects easy and convenient. The project was started by Pedro Piñera in 2017, together with some other open source projects Tuist is built upon. Since then, Tuist has empowered several projects and organizations that faced the struggles and cumbersomeness of using Xcode at scale.</p>
<p>Tuist is a fully-featured tool for Xcoders. It abstracts intricacies of Xcode projects to let you focus on coding your apps for Apple platforms. It’s entirely written in Swift, and thoroughly tested for your projects to safely rely on it.</p>
<p>Tuist is here to stay, and our team of Core maintainers is working hard to ensure that it does. However, nobody is currently being paid for this work, meaning that everybody here dedicated a big chunk of their free time towards making sure that Tuist is the best it's ever been. We have lofty goals, so anything would help to keep us going!</p>
<p>In the future, we would also like to work on other things that will improve the Tuist ecosystem. Here's a couple of ideas:</p>
<ul>
<li>Manage signing certificates and provisioning profiles with a robust and standard approach.</li>
<li>Publish new versions of the app directly from the terminal, without having to write a single automation script.</li>
<li>Support for transitive static dependencies with resources.</li>
<li>Support for app extensions.</li>
</ul>

<h3>Building up</h3><div>Since 2013, gulp has been the toolkit of choice for developers and designers alike. Not only do we have communities who’ve relied on us since the beginning, but there’s also a constant flow of new users who find out how great their workflow can be with gulp.<br /><br />Prior to the last major release, gulp was maintained by a sole maintainer who wasn’t always able to dedicate much time to the project. You might have noticed releases taking a while. 😉<br /><br />In preparation for the release, we focused on raising funds for the project to expand the team. Our goal was to have a variety of maintainers, each working on smaller parts of the large system. Now, we have over a dozen team members, including developers, documentarians, and even a triage team all working in their “spare” time to maintain and improve the project you love. ❤️<br /><br /></div><h3>Towards sustainability</h3><div>If you’ve used our documentation in the last few years, you’re experiencing first-hand the benefits of funding gulp. With a moderately successful funding effort, we found contributors to focus their time and energy, leading to the creation of high quality documentation. Whether you’re a new user just <a href="https://gulpjs.com/docs/en/getting-started/quick-start">getting started</a> or a power user looking to <a href="https://gulpjs.com/docs/en/api/concepts">improve your workflow</a>, there’s something for everyone!<br /><br />There is still plenty of work do in all parts of the project, so we created an official <a href="https://github.com/gulpjs/gulp/blob/master/EXPENSE_POLICY.md">Expense Policy</a> to ensure all our maintainers are being compensated for the vital work they do.<br /><br /></div><h3>Help us grow</h3><div>Gulp is still going strong, but we need your help!
